Keybeds are different. And surface controls needs can make another layer of complexity. I say go to a music store Pro Audio department and physically play on as many different controllers until you find one that feels best to you and your budget and go with that.
If you are using a lot of Native Instrument plug-ins, then one of their controllers would be a good choice. We also encourage you to create a thread about this on the Presonus user forum. It is very important to check "Split Channels" - otherwise Studio One would not let you choose between different input channels later on.
Then you have to "arm" the tracks of Studio One. Please take a look at this image for Studio One 3 this is similar in Studio One 4 :. You will have to open the Inspector click the "i" icon or press F4 for that. Box 2 Studio One 3 : You need to activate all the small recording markers by clicking on them. This way you can arm multiple tracks at once. Only armed tracks will respond to the channels that you have set in Box 1 before. Important: I highly recommend to set all instrument numbers inside Sundog to "Off" if you work with synth plug-ins!
This way the plug-ins will always stay on the preset that you chose inside the DAW and not change their sounds from time to time.
Please make sure that you don't create a nasty feedback loop with your MIDI connections. Otherwise it might happen that these notes will trigger Sundog to instantly send new notes to Studio One as well, and the whole circle starts again. One time from the keyboard itself, the other time when Sundog sends its notes. I hope this small guide was useful!
I have also tried reading the posts here, some are similar, but there seems to be no solution for me apparently. What do I have : Macbook pro laptop, with an external qwery keyboard plugged in correctly. In the presence instrument panel however, presonus does not respond when I press keys.
What have I tried: Went into preferences, added a qwerty keyboard as input correctly. Then in my presence instrument panel, I checked the option for using external qwerty keyboard its yellow now.
Still not respond when I want to play the piano! The gui for the qwerty keys needs to be open to record midi data. See if that gets you going. Thanks for reply. How can I get up the gui for this? Inside studio one, or just the macs own gui interface for qwerty? However this is the default one, and is not connected to presonus in any way.
How to setup a MIDI controller in Studio One 4
Did you mean this? Because it still does not work, presonus studio one responds to record etc. Going from memory. I think clicking that will open up the qwerty gui. The keyboard you are showing in the second pic is not it.
The qwerty gui has the same wrapper as the rest of the plugins. Press the gear icon. That should open another layer just above the instrument inside the same existing window.
Be aware the GUI can fall behind other windows making you think it's gone when it's really not.
I'd suggest you click the 'pin' icon on it to keep it at the top. I love you Thanks, it solved my problem!External Instruments are set up globally and then are available for use in any Song.
