Tried to fix to no avail by me and two others.
I chose to go with this radio because of the waterfall display, I also liked that it could do all modes between HF and 70cm. I will update this review later as I get more use to and work with other features this radio has. Screen and display plastic protection.
New plastic packing bag. No new handbook had to download the files to supplement my old book, one would think for the cost we would score a new handbook.
Add a software defined radio (SDR) to your transceiver to make a 'real-time' panadapter
LCD V in. Initial Impressions Spectrum scope in Auto Mode very low in gain like the display on the DMU even on 40M had to turn amp on the lift tiny display above base line. I am so over the lack of spectral display in Yaesu products this past five years like pulling teeth out to get any sort of decent display.
Main V easy as per instructions. Software menu not so easy. Now starts the issue of communicating with the A as per the a bit tricky until you know how to do it, and it was so tricky last time it took ages, so I haven't uploaded my saved configuration files yet. Save your money. If I change my mind will be first to admit. Early days yet. March 14th Just traded in my one year old IC with all its frequency stability issues, the denial by many that it was an issue.
I back traded for a nos A serial number 8G with plastic still on the dial. I programmed in local repeaters and also 6 FM repeater. I intend to use the radio for some of the things it was designed at this low in sunspots.
I am a long timed Yaesu fan, and still have a lot of radios by them, one is the beloved FT But after two disappointments in a row, FT2D and FTA, I will be very careful to buy another Yaesu radio unless they will care again about the real use of a radio by a real ham. The concept of the radio is great: a full packed 4 bander RTX with modern DSP, a very usable spectrum scope, an antenna tuner, great configurability, C4FM, CW keyer, voice memories, and a good number of direct controls keys, knobs despite the incredible compactness.QRZ Forums.
I have an SDRPlay rsp1a. When I connect it to my hex beam and then compare it to the receive on my FTA I find that the receive capability of the rsp1a is not nearly as good as the A. Is this normal? What is your experience? W4MUFJul 16, While I can not give you precise explanation, I can try to give a few guesses and opinions.
So take my post with a grain of salt. While designing a panadapter board for myI had the radio schematic all the time at my side - Since I don't hold a Electrical Engineering degree, lots of times I resorted to the radio schematic to find out "how someone that actually designs stuff for a living dealt with this problem".
And I took a lot of ideas from my radio schematics. Yes, this is a well thought product, when you spend some good time at the schematics you start getting dazzled. I would highly recommend you. The Main Unit pages is amazing. In the end Jimmy, I found that the A transceiver is a equipment that is carefully crafted to perform a specific job. It is indeed a speciality hardware.
And you pay Now take the RSP1A. While some would surely buy it for a ham radio companion, it on the other hand it has big ears: It can receive up to a 10 MHz chunk of spectrum at time, while your radio works with Not all RSP1A buyers has the same use case.
So we have a speciality device versus something that is crafted to suit a lot of other potential use cases - There are compromises that the designer has to take into account. I wanted to take advantage of the radio speciality signal conditioning and processing just before the roofing filter, without the need of antenna switchers, taps, relay boxes and for the current tuned radio band - then I'm limited just by the initial pre-selectors input BPFs. And man, I'm enjoying it. WD4IGX likes this.

These superior-performance transceivers include a high-resolution full-color 3. TFT touch panel for exceptional operability and visibility.
The new dynamic real-time spectrum scope gives radio operators the ability to graphically view the location of signals on the band while they listen to the received audio, allowing them to quickly move to the desired signal.
The strength of signals on the band can readily be seen on the Multi-Color Waterfall Display. Chronological order color differentiation allows operators to easily recognize weak signals at a glance; signals that might otherwise be missed on the spectrum scope. FT As feature a rugged state-of-the-art highly balanced receiver circuit configuration. Date: May 19, Date: February 24, Date: December 17, The configuration of the FT is, but there are differences which may not be evident in the manual supplied with the radio. Before connecting up, do ensure that your Signalink is appropriately configured, this will involve taking the unit apart. It should have come with clear instructions on how to do this, alternatively go to the Tigertronics website for help. There are four socket head screws on the front of the unit to remove, this allows you access to the configuration socket.
Configuration is no problem and should not be too difficult to do. New units are supplied with precut link wires which work just fine. Alternatively, there are pre-configured adapters available which will slot right in and eliminates the need for link wires. It's fairly easy to do and should not cause any problems.

Shortly after that, Yaesu decided to surprise us me by releasing the FTA, for more or less the same price as I paid for the FT, and slashed the price of the FT, immediately devaluing my new purchase.
Great timing. The FTA version included some cool extra features such as a real-time spectrum scope, and a multi-color waterfall display. If this is indeed the official upgrade kit, wow was I wrong.
The hardware kit comprises three new circuit boards a new control unit, a new main unit, a new jack unitand a new label. I have added you to our list but will be contacting you to go over the procedure with you. But if you have any further questions that we can assist you with please feel free to let me know. I emailed them back for clarification.
If anyone has any news on the upgrade that they would like to share, please add it in one of the comments areas below. Now we have a couple of possibilities. According to the original find at hamradio. Unfortunately, it does look like the main board is different also see an example abovewith U.
On top of this, there will be a firmware upgrade, and who knows what else. If nothing appears soon, I might lose patience and do a high-impedance IF tap on my and feed it to an SDR for a band scope on the shack computer…. Still no real upgrade program from Yaesu. Sure, you need a computer for this method, but I think most of us have a shack PC anyway. Maybe not to be continued? Not worth it for me.
Yaesu FT-991A: First impressions
Yaesu contacted me today by phone and email to see if I was still interested in upgrading my radio to a A. They requested my original sales invoice and my serial number, which I provided. We shall see what they say next…. Yaesu contacted me today by phone and I arranged to have my FT sent to them in Cypress, CA to have the upgrades done. Yaesu in Cypress, California received my FT on November 9th, and said it would take up to a week to turn around. This forum is now suspended and will not accept any new posts or account registrations.

Omnirig and FTa not talking An area to exchange hints and tips on various rig control software, also a place to ask the community questions if you are having problems.
Forum rules. I think I may be missing a setting or I am doing something wrong. I am having an issue getting omnirig and sdrplay to work with my rig. One of the two. I have seen the videos of using a virtual port splitter such as VSPE or com0com.
I'd like to get that working as well, especially using com0com. But first I need SDRuno to play nice with the radio. Please anyone able to help or at least point me to the right direction?
Jeremy - K5JSG. Reason: No reason. Almost all dual com port Yaesu rigs use the Enhanced port for rig control. Only things on my end that were different in the port settings in device manager for the enhanced port COM 3 were the "bits per second" and "stop bits". So I updated their values to match both the rig and omnirig's values. Still a no go with SDRuno. I still have no rig control in SDRuno. Although, if Omnirig is open, neither of those programs will take control of the rig.
I get error messages saying they can not connect to the rig because the port is busy. Anyone had a problem similar to this and able to fix it? Mike any more ideas? Make sure nothing else is communication with the rig when using omnirig. You might want to look into the omnirig client app to verify your settings. SDRuno only uses omnirig as a transport so the issue is with omnirig and your rig not SDRuno and omnirig.
Was just stating that other programs have no problem taking control, and have no issues with them and CAT control. They are setup independently and work without omnirig or SDRuno running. Just stating if omnirig is open, neither program will work for cat control and give an error stating the com port is in use.
I close omnirig and either program works as normal.
