It acts like a fuel problem, but we've checked fuel pressures and been through all the diags from the chevy manuals on hard starting.

So far, no luck. I had a guy here tell me it was the temp sensor near the t-stat housing. Has anyone had any experiance with that being a problem? No codes are being set either.

What do ya think? Needs some help. The fuel pump has a back up power source so it will kick in when the oil pressure gets up to 10 psi like after cranking for a while. Anyways there is a relay for the fuel pump mounted on the firewall, I replaced that and its been fine.

You can have someone turn the key part way but not try to start it while you listen by the tank to see if the pump turns on for a few seconds. If not replace the relay.

Key Switch to on--Relay closes Audible clickand pump runs for about seconds. If cold, engine delays in firing. Removed relay and jumpered the pumps connection--Pump runs continiously. Same result as above with respect to engine start-up time. Checked fuel pressure, but don't remember the numbers now. It was in spec per the book. Pulled temp sensor plug. This didn't change anything. Cycling the key switch multiple times before startup does not help.

Bumping the starter 1 "powerstroke" at a time, the engine will fire and run typcially on the 5th turn. This result is what lead me to think it was fuel related. The entire charge is being pulled into the cylinder. Maybe the starter eats all the electricity when its cold?Forums New posts Trending Search forums. Not getting gas. Fuel flooded or oil getting to them. Fresh plugs are the best place to start. I still say if he hasn't done anything to the car and it just wont start cover the carb with a rag to choke it to death and see if it starts Dec 28, 16 Versailles, KY. Sounds like a timing issue.

Pull the distributor, get number 1 to top dead center and go from there. No one asked the right question. What did you DO to the car? If you came out one morning like usual and it was dead, that's different. But what if anything were you doing to the car?Truck ran fine with no indication of problem. When outside temp. Would crank normally but not start. Found no spark. Replace HEI distributor and no start.

Have replaced spark plugs, had starter and battery tested. All are good. Edelbrock cfm carb is 6 months old. If you put another used distributor on it, I would take it inside and change all the electronics in it. I put a new distributor in because I was not getting a spark.

I have a spark now.

Engine Cranks But Won't Start

Carburetor is functioning normally. Divide and conquer! Spray some starting fluid into the carb throat and try starting the engine. If it sputters or starts and runs for a brief period, you have a fuel issue. Eliminates guesswork. If not, continue diagnosing by checking spark and compression. Tried the starting fluid already. The engine has only 20, miles the entire truck was restored 2 years ago. Not sure what the ballast resistor is. Is this something in the original OE distributor?

I have a HEI distributor. It was not sparking.

350 Will not star. Has fuel and spark

Installed new dist. Did you line the dist up properly? It is easy to get it degrees out, If you line it up with the rotor pointing to 1 at top of the exh stroke, and not the comp stroke. OK, good. Next question, is the starter motor turning the engine over at the normal speed?Forums New posts Trending Search forums.

Joined Dec 27, My 83 will not start but have checked all the plugs for spark and checks good. Has a holley 4 barrel that is freshly rebuilt. I am stumped. The truck turns over fine but doesnt even act like it wants to start. I drove it in the garage and now it wont drive out.

There is gas sitting in the intake manifold but the plugs are dry. Any and all help is appreciated. Joined Sep 29, I don't know what could have happened from just sitting in the garage.

If the manifold is wet, but the plugs are dry this would suggest that the fuel isn't getting sucked into the cylinders, but with minimal cranking it's possible for the plugs to remain dry. What " color" is your spark? Have you done anything to it except for drive it into the garage? Have you replaced anything or made any adjustments?? Joined May 13, As stated many times on here, you need 3 things: fuel, spark, and compression for gas engines to run.

You say carb is freshly rebuilt, was that after you drove it in to the garage? There's a possibility you could still not be getting enough fuel even if there is some in there. Carb got electric or manual choke? My choke on my old van with a quadrajet was faulty, so I'd crank it and it wouldn't even try to fire, I had to pump it a good times before it'd even try.

If the plugs are dry, keep pumping the throttle until you at least get the plugs wet. X2 on Dualdjs post. From reading your o. The plot thickens It sat there for about 2 days before i tried to start it. I did not touch anything. I just did the simple compression test with my finger and all is good. OK, sparks good then.

This thing just isn't getting any fuel. You aren't getting enough fuel into the cylinders to fire it. Unless as Jason said your timing chain broke while it was sitting.Gain extra benefits by becoming a Supporting Member Click here find out how! Send Private Topic View Profile.

I am new to the forum but have been reading several previous threads on here while trying to troubleshoot my 91 Suburban. It is a Suburban with TBI. It has the separate coil, not the coil pack inside of the distributor. A few weeks ago, it wouldn't start up.

Initially, I thought the fuel pump was bad because it didn't seem to be making the noise I recognized when turning the key to 'on'. However after replacing the fuel pump I'm still getting crank but no run. No codes only get code 12 which is always present - sprayed starter fluid in the throttle body and cranked, but the engine didn't fire at all, so I'm guessing I have no spark - confirmed I get If you don't have spark at the plugs, have the ignition module tested.

You can take to any parts store. To test for spark, remove the 1 plug wire. Insert a screwdriver or something metal into the boot. Ground the screwdriver to the exhaust manifold.
